Delivery idea
Use the Rugby World Cup countries to raise awareness of the British Empire.
How to do it
Identify the leading Rugby nations in the world. Identify countries which have been part of the Commonwealth. What proportion of traditional Rugby-playing countries are Commonwealth countries? In how many Commonwealth countries was Rugby embraced by the indigenous people? Can you give examples of where Rugby proved particularly significant in uniting British settlers with the local people? The tasks could take the form of an individual project or group presentation.
When/ where to use it
Use in July 2014 or autumn 2014 to make links between the Commonwealth Games and the forthcoming Rugby World Cup 2015.
