Deliver one or a series of assemblies on how Rugby World Cup 1995 celebrated the end of Apartheid.
How to do it
Option one: the teacher delivers whole school assemblies on Apartheid and how the Rugby World Cup 1995 celebrated the transformation of South Africa into a more integrated, post-Apartheid society.
Option two: with teacher support, students research, design and deliver whole school assemblies on the above theme.
Option three: teachers and students follow up in tutor time, using supporting resources to encourage discussion.
When/ where to use it
Use this at any time to raise awareness of social and political issues in school. Link to citizenship and/or PSHE. Possibly best time to use it is to coincide with Rugby World Cup 2015 opening ceremony or final.
